Foreign Documents
For the German authorities to recognise the foreign degrees of skilled professionals, a range of documents must be submitted as a certified translation. As a rule, anything translated abroad which is intended for a work visa being granted does not suffice. Sometimes, a document may even require a notarial certification from its country of origin which is then used to translate a certified copy of the notarial certification.
In order to provide a fixed price for the certified translation of your documents, we need more than merely the country in which the document was drafted. After all, documents indicating an individual’s civil status – depending on the country in which they were issued – can be long, or short:
In India, for example, marriage certificates issued by the State of Tamil Nadu are much more comprehensive than those issued by the State of Gujarat, making their translation more expensive. Also, a birth certificate from Maharashtra will look different to its counterpart from Karnataka or Uttar Pradesh.
The same goes for the USA: a driver’s licence from the State of New York will look different to one issued in Kansas. And even school leaving certificates differ, with those issued in Michigan diverging greatly from those from Kentucky. There are even differences when it comes to tax returns. Delaware, for example, imposes taxes differently to California.
Doctors and nurses
Likewise, degrees and certificates of foreign caregivers must be translated by a certified translation agency in Germany.
One very prominent example is the recognition of doctors since the medical associations of the various Federal States stipulate different standards. Yet, one thing always stays the same: the translation must have been made by a sworn translator registered with a Regional Court for the competent authorities to recognise the respective degree.
Engineers and IT specialists
Engineers and IT specialists from abroad wishing to come to Germany on either a visa or a work permit need the relevant documentation to have been translated by a sworn translator in Germany.
In addition to an employment contract, the Blue Card also calls for appropriate documentation establishing a recognised degree or completed vocational training, all of which will need to be officially translated.
