No known relationship – unfortunately

Our company name often gives rise to false assumptions in linguistic circles – but unfortunately none of us is closely related to the German linguist August Schleicher. On the other hand, the birthplace of Reiner Schleicher and August Schleicher are less than 100 miles apart, so who knows?

They do have a few things in common, though: August Schleicher was heavily involved with the Indian subcontinent, and a large part of our clients also come from India. Besides a mastery of countless other languages, such as Lithuanian – known by linguists to be notoriously difficult – he also set himself the goal of carrying out research into “Indo-Germanic”, to proto-language we nowadays call “Indo-European”.

Not everything that August Schleicher noted down in those days still holds true today. Some of the rules he introduced into the field of linguistics in his day do still apply – such as the convention of marking reconstructed word forms with an asterisk.
